
Palliative Care Training Course in an FQHC Setting
Program Information
With support from IDPH, IPHCA is working with leaders at the University of Chicago and the Coleman Palliative Medicine Training Program to offer a third cycle of the Palliative Care Training (PCT) for FQHC staff and leaders. The goal of this program is to educate decision makers at FQHCs about the benefits of providing palliative care or providing a referral for palliative care for patients with cancer from the time of diagnosis. This is a free, virtual training program that aims to enhance communication skills for providers who care for seriously ill patients across the lifespan. Session recordings will be available for on demand learning and CME/CE credits are pending for physicians, APPs, and social workers who attend all sessions. The course will include six recorded on-demand sessions and option to participate in three additional sessions if interested.

- Barriers to Access to Palliative Care and End of Life Care

- Mental Health & Substance Use Disorders in Palliative Care
- Spiritual Assessment: Beyond Screening, Beyond Religion
- Frail and Multi-Morbid Patients in Palliative Care

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:
- Gain knowledge on the importance and benefits of providing palliative care or a referral to palliative care to patients
- Learn skills to strengthen patient-clinician interactions, communication, medical decision-making, and continuity of care around palliative care.
