Pooja Mehta, MD, MSHP
Dr. Mehta is a board-certified practicing obstetrician gynecologist, and Head of Women’s Health at Cityblock Health, the first Medicaid-focused, value-based, tech-enabled provider for communities with complex health and social needs. Cityblock’s care teams meet members where they are across five states, delivering highly personalized primary care, behavioral health care, and social services designed for and with Medicaid members, those who are dually eligible for Medicaid and Medicare, and others living in lower-income neighborhoods.
Prior to Cityblock Health, Dr. Mehta served as Interim Chief Medical Officer and Chief Clinical Innovation Officer of Louisiana Medicaid, and founding Medical Director of the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative and Maternal Mortality Review. In this role, she led quality improvement efforts, informed benefits design, spearheaded care delivery innovation, and supported multi-disciplinary initiatives to improve maternal, infant, and reproductive health outcomes for more than 1.3 million Louisiana Medicaid members.
Dr. Mehta obtained her undergraduate degree from Columbia University, a Masters of Science in Health Policy Research from the University of Pennsylvania, and her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine through the Humanities and Medicine Program. She completed her residency training at Boston University Medical Center and her health policy training through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania while serving clinically at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She has particular expertise in health services and community-based participatory research elevating community voices to inform design of population care models. She is an adjunct Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston University School of Medicine, practicing with a reproductive-informed focus on inpatient obstetrics, family planning, and reproductive infectious disease. Her research has received funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Penn Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, and has been published in national and international journals
