Jennifer Johnson, MS, CNM
Jen Johnson (she/her), MS, CNM is a midwife who has worked in homebirth, birth centers, and both community and academic hospitals for over 6 years. She is passionate about improving healthcare equity, patient experience, and access to safe and quality care. This includes working toward greater access to midwives and community birth; interdisciplinary education; antiracism and the reproductive justice framework; and healthcare reform at all levels. She is particularly interested in how midwives, nurses, doulas, physicians, and EMTs can learn together in order to better prepare for obstetric needs in their local community. It is her belief that providers across all pathways offer unique and important perspectives to a care team, and that working together effectively must include learning about and honoring each other’s skills and strengths. In addition to clinical practice, Jen serves as a Clinical Operations Consultant with Primary Maternity Care, and has been integral in leading the development and pilot of PMC’s Step Up Together program, a Cohort-based learning program designed to help community birth leaders prepare for, conduct, document, and debrief team drills for OB emergencies. Jen is also an Assistant Professor at the Jefferson Midwifery Institute, where she facilitates interprofessional education with the aim of improving collaboration among physicians and midwives.
