Sarah Stetina, APRN-FPA, CNM
Sarah is a Full Practice Authority Advanced Practice Nurse and Certified Nurse Midwife in Illinois. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2016 and currently serves as the Director of Midwifery at a free-standing birth center in the suburbs of Chicago. She continues to provide clinical services in addition to her leadership responsibilities. Sarah has over a decade of experience caring for pregnant people and their newborns in hospital, birth center, and home settings. Her diversity of experience highlighted the critical importance of an interdisciplinary approach between hospitals and community birth settings in order to achieve the best outcomes for families.
At the free-standing birth center, Sarah developed a comprehensive, cross-facility emergency drill program improving safety and emergency preparedness across sites. Since the birth center’s inception just two years ago she has conducted over a dozen emergency drills with EMS and hospital partners and over thirty internal drills for her staff. These simulations are essential in improving the safety of community birth and improving processes and trust with EMS and hospital team members.
