Session Information
Clinical Approaches to Navigating Bullying for School-Based Professionals
This dynamic session will address the topic of bullying from the most basic elements to clinical approaches for each nuanced role in bullying experienced by children. Dr. Robert Keder will discuss the various roles of children in bullying (target, bystander, and child who bullies) and their developmental trajectories in terms of risk and resilience factors. Dr. Keder will outline strategies to support children in clinical and school contexts.
About the Speaker
Robert D. Keder, MD (Rob; he/him) attended the Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed his residency in pediatrics through the University of Connecticut at Connecticut Children’s. He then completed a three year fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center / Boston University and a one year LEND (Leadership Education for Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) fellowship through the University of Massachusetts Shriver Center.
He joined the faculty at Connecticut Children’s in 2016 where he is involved in several aspects of medical education working with students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians. He is currently the director of Education for the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. His clinical interests relate to autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental delays, preventing and managing bullying, and supporting children with special needs by collaborating with school teams.
He served as a co-chair of the Advocacy Committee for the Society for Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics from 2019 to 2022 and is now an inaugural co-chair for the newly formed Society for Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics School Age Special Interest Group. He currently serves on the UConn Pediatric Residency Program’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee as well as the UConn GME Diversity Oversight Committee. He works with the media team at Connecticut Children’s to produce blog posts for families as well as speaking on news media (television, film, and print) about supporting emotional health and well-being for young children. He has worked with the Connecticut State Department of Education to talk about emotionally supporting families through the COVID-19 pandemic. He is currently the medical director for the Hartford Area Medical Legal Partnership with the Center for Children’s Advocacy.
