Oral Health Ohio Symposium (November 8, 2024)

Symposium Information

The Oral Health Ohio Symposium is a one-day, state-wide convening of stakeholders, individuals, and partners from across diverse professions to learn and work together toward improving equity and oral health integration across health care systems.

Oral health is a critical component of overall health and well-being yet remains a neglected part of whole-person health. This year's symposium activities were based on the following learner gaps:

  1. Disintegration of oral health within the broader healthcare system: Oral health is often siloed, leading to suboptimal patient care and health outcomes.
  2. Limited understanding of oral health policies and their impact: Healthcare providers and stakeholders lack awareness of policies influencing oral health care delivery and opportunities for advocacy.
  3. Insufficient integration of oral health into community health worker roles: CHWs, key to reaching underserved populations, often overlook oral health in their work.
  4. Lack of organizational health literacy: Healthcare organizations struggle to effectively communicate oral health information to patients and facilitate navigation of the healthcare system.

This activity is appropriate for the following audiences:

  • Oral health providers
