Carlos Tirado, CEO, MD, MPH

Dr. Tirado is a General and Addiction Psychiatrist and is the Founder and CEO of CARMAhealth, an integrated primary care and behavioral health practice and staffing company that specializes in the treatment of substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Dr. Tirado completed his medical training at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School and a master’s in public health in Community Health Promotion at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Tirado completed his residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Tirado completed a T32 clinical research fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Centers for Studies of Addiction. He is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and serves on the Texas Medical Association Committee on Behavioral Health. He serves as Associate Professor of Practice at University of Texas School of Pharmacy with the Pharmacy Addictions Research and Medicine (PhARM) program.
Dr. Tirado has expertise in medication therapy for addiction, pharmaceutical and behavioral research, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, peer recovery support, bridging the gap between primary care and behavioral health, developing operations and payment models for behavioral health services, interventional psychiatry, management of chronic pain and addiction, medical device development in SUD, corporate mental health. As a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine he has served as Texas chapter president and on two major guideline development workgroups. Dr. Tirado has co-chaired and organized professional conferences, and as served on multiple community and non-profit boards and taskforces.
