Program Information
The educational activities included in this program are designed to increase foundational knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community, including knowledge of health disparities that they experience, and develop skills to provide affirming, culturally humble, and appropriate healthcare to LGBTQ+ patients. Recent research along with patient and provider testimony indicate that there’s a lack of LGBTQ+ specific education in medical education, which leads to LGBTQ+ individuals receiving poor quality care. This, in addition to social stigma, results in preventable health disparities and barriers to accessing care. By increasing knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community, healthcare professionals will be better prepared to provide compassionate care to LGBTQ+ patients and manage their complex health needs.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate how to use gender affirming language
- Explain the importance of collecting patient sexual orientation and gender identity information
- Apply best practices for providing affirming care to LGBTQ+ patients
- Identify health conditions that disproportionately impact the LGBTQ+ community
