This advanced Motivational Interviewing webinar builds upon foundational MI principles and equips participants with practical techniques to deepen patient engagement during clinical encounters. Participants will learn to recognize and strategically respond to change talk, sustain talk, and discord using the DARN-CAT framework and advanced reflective listening skills. Through case examples and practical application, attendees will explore importance and confidence scaling, values exploration, complex reflections, targeted affirmations, and collaborative action planning. Participants will leave with evidence-based communication strategies that promote patient autonomy, strengthen commitment to change, and improve adherence to preventive health recommendations, including cancer screening and follow-up care.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:
- Differentiate and strategically respond to change talk, sustain talk, and discord using advanced reflective listening techniques and the DARN-CAT framework.
- Apply evocative Motivational Interviewing strategies—including importance/confidence scaling, values exploration, and double-sided reflections—to strengthen patient motivation and resolve ambivalence.
- Use advanced reinforcement techniques, including complex reflections, targeted affirmations, and strategic summaries, to amplify commitment language and enhance patient self-efficacy.
- Facilitate patient-generated action planning by translating motivation into SMART goals and realistic next steps that improve adherence and support long-term behavior change.
