IPHCA Dental Directors Training (August 26, 2026)

Program Information

This meeting will bring FQHC Dental Directors together to hear presentations on some prominent topics in oral health today, such as advocacy, workforce, and integration. There will also be ample time for networking and open discussion to hear what your colleagues are doing within their own FQHC dental clinics.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the following sessions, participants should be able to do the following:

Mobile Dentistry for Community Health Centers: Operations, Workflows, and the Path to Sustainability

  1. Describe the access and population-health rationale for mobile dental care in the FQHC setting, and identify the community, workforce, and reimbursement conditions that determine whether a mobile program is a sound fit.
  2. Outline the core operational and clinical workflows of a mobile dental program — unit configuration, staffing and scheduling, patient flow, teledentistry, minimally invasive and preventive protocols (e.g., silver diamine fluoride and fluoride varnish), infection control, and documentation — and identify best practices that improve completed-visit rates, quality, and continuity of care.
  3. Evaluate the financial and regulatory factors that drive mobile dental sustainability — payer mix, Medicaid reimbursement, billing, and diversified funding — including Illinois-specific supervision rules, scope of practice, and reimbursement considerations relevant to program design.

Addressing Burnout Through Practical Solutions for Your Team: An Interactive Session

  1. Identity a team friction point using evidence-based frameworks affecting team morale and culture
  2. Design a small-scale action plan to begin addressing the issue.
  3. Establish concrete metrics to measure the impact of the implemented change on team culture, morale and burnout.

Nutrition: The Low Hanging Fruit in Optimizing Oral Health

  1. Explain how caries develops and why diets are such a huge player in caries risk.
  2. Describe the importance of nutrient dense foods as it relates to oral and overall health.
  3. Be able to coach your patients with simple habit changes that can positively an affect their oral and overall health.
