Kimberly Gordon-Achebe, MD, DFAPA

Dr. Kimberly Gordon-Achebe (aka Dr. Kim Gordon) is a national thought leader in social justice and child mental health. Dr. Gordon received her B.S. from Xavier University of Louisiana. She completed her medical degree, residency training in adult psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine. She is principal consultant and Founder of BHETC, LLC (Bringing Health Equity to Communities), a health equity consulting firm working to bring mental health justice, diversity, inclusion and health equity to communities of color, through education, innovative community resources, and trainings in partnership with healthcare systems, legislative policy makers and BIPOC grassroots organizations. She enjoys faculty appointments as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine and at University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she was former Director of the University of Maryland’s Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. She is recognized as a pioneer in minority mental health and is the recipient of the American Psychiatric Association’s Jeanne Spurlock Award. She has written several peer-reviewed publications on the impact of racism on health disparities and inequities in mental health care. Dr. Gordon is Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She currently serves on the Board of the American Association for Community Psychiatry as a Member at Large, and Co-Chair of Child-Committee for The Medical Director Institute, of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
