Jonathan Lichtenstein, PsyD, MBA
Dr. Lichtenstein is the Director of Neuropsychological Services at Dartmouth Health, where he also leads the Pediatric Neuropsychology and Sports Neuropsychology programs. He is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. Dr. Lichtenstein is a consultant to concussion management programs at middle schools, high schools, and colleges in New Hampshire, and is the Team Neuropsychologist for Dartmouth College Athletics, also serving as Site Co-PI for the Big Ten-Ivy League Epidemiology of Concussion Study. In the realm of advocacy, Dr. Lichtenstein is the President of the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire.
Clinically, Dr. Lichtenstein provides neuropsychological care for the most vulnerable members of our community, namely children and individuals with brain-based disorders of development. His clinics at Dartmouth serve the citizens of New Hampshire and Vermont with the goal of improving their quality of life. The Pediatric Neuropsychology team at Dartmouth Health works with patients facing epilepsy, perinatal stroke, brain tumors, blood cancers, genetic syndromes, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual/developmental disorders, infectious diseases, chronic kidney disease, traumatic brain injury, and a variety of other neurological disorders. Committed to providing the highest quality care, Dr. Lichtenstein also engages providers from other specialties to facilitate multi- and inter-disciplinary assessment and evaluation for children with medical and developmental complexity.
Dr. Lichtenstein’s is the founder and director of the Better Lab at DH. His team's research is wide-ranging, but generally focuses on cognitive outcomes in brain-based pediatric disorders. In the realm of concussion, his research examines the effects of age, environment, and exercise on post-concussion assessments. He also studies novel interventions to improve recovery, works to change TBI culture and education delivery in schools and healthcare settings, and tests innovative brain-based biomarkers for diagnosis, monitoring, and recovery. Additionally, his work has examined the effect of HIV upon cognition, literacy, and central auditory processing in Tanzania. As an educator, Dr. Lichtenstein trains interns and advanced post-doctoral fellows in pediatric and sports neuropsychology, introduces clinical psychology graduate students to neuropsychological practices, and mentors learners at all levels. He lectures widely on neuropsychology, addressing the specific applications of neuropsychological principles to concussion management in scholastic and clinical settings.
