Addressing Food Insecurity in SBHCs, a Learning Community (December 13, 2023)

Program Information

SBHA and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry will be launching a second phase of grant funding to support food access in school-based health centers (SBHCs). Funding will run from July 2023 to September 2024. Proposed projects should represent at least 10 SBHCs. This activity will enable integrated school-based health center teams to come together to work on addressing food insecurity through various community-based programs.

There is an opportunity to earn a maximum of 6 CME/CE hours - 2 credits each for the 3 sessions beginning in November.  Please register only if you participated in at least one of these sessions and intend to claim credits.

Target Audience

This activity is appropriate for integrated school-based health center teams. 

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will learn how to address food insecurity through federal nutrition programs (SNAP, WIC).
  2. Participants will be able to describe the key components related to youth development and how they can incorporate youth voices into the work that they are doing in addressing food insecurity.
  3. Participants will be able to apply key considerations in establishing a food insecurity screening and referral process to community-based programs (i.e. food pantry, produce prescriptions, healthy meals/snacks).
