ECHO Conversations on Pain for Advanced Practice Residents

Program Information

Weitzman ECHO Conversations on Pain for Advanced Practice Residents is a once-monthly videoconference that connects new primary care providers with a rotating team of multidisciplinary pain experts for in-depth, personalized learning to improve the care of patients experiencing pain. Residents will have the opportunity to connect in a small, virtual group setting with experts in physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health, alternative medicine, and pharmacology.

Weitzman ECHO uses interactive learning to provide support and education to providers, enabling them to more effectively manage complex pain cases. During each session, a pain expert will provide a focused didactic and then residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and share case challenges for discussion with the expert and peer residents from across the country. Topics in the 10-month didactic curriculum will include pain exams, psychological approaches to pain management, headaches, and safe opioid prescribing. Participants will have the opportunity to bring their case-based questions and challenges, as each session will provide a space for conversation with one or more of the expert team members.

Weitzman ECHO Conversations on Pain for Advanced Practice Residents is designed to set the newest generation of advanced practice providers up for success by addressing common challenges in pain treatment:

  • Primary care providers express low confidence in their ability to manage pain and discontent with pain resources available to them.
  • Access to specialty consultation is extremely limited.
  • There is a wide variation in primary care in the prescribing of opioids and adherence to guidelines for documentation.

This activity meets once monthly on Thursdays from 12-1pm ET.

This activity is appropriate for advanced practice residents.
