Program Information
In partnership with the New England Regional Genetics Network, or NERGN, the Genetics webinar series aims to provide a variety of healthcare providers with a working knowledge of Genetics, review unique challenges, and improve understanding of available Genetics resources.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to do the following:
- Improve the capacity of primary care providers and the interprofessional care team to successfully collaborate with genetic specialists in the care of their patients
- Develop primary care provider understanding of some of the unique challenges encountered when discussing genetic conditions with patients and their families
- Increase the primary care team’s understanding of the resources available at their disposal in the care of their patients
Faculty
Jodi Hoffman, MD, is the Medical Director of the Boston Genetic Counseling Master’s Program, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University, and practices Medical Genetics at Boston Medical Center.
Mark Korson, MD, is a Boston-based biochemical and metabolic geneticist. As the Director of Physician Support at VMP Genetics, he is pioneering the concept of telehealth and peer-to-peer consultation as a way of addressing the genetics workforce shortage. As VMP's Director of Education, Dr. Korson regularly hosts lectures and workshops with the aim of educating non-geneticists to play more of a role in the diagnosis and management of patients with metabolic disease. Dr. Korson has also co-founded and co-directs the North American Metabolic Academy. Regionally, he is on the board of the New England Regional Genetics Network, and hosts the annual Rare Disease Day Speakers Series on behalf of Rare New England.
Stephanie Sacharow, MD, is a medical geneticist at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Sacharow graduated from Vanderbilt University and then from the University of Miami - Miller School of Medicine. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Medical Genetics and Medical Biochemical Genetics, and has been practicing for over 15 years. Dr. Sacharow was recruited to Boston Children’s Hospital in 2015, and is a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty. She was involved with the implementation and execution of expanded newborn screening for metabolic disease in South Florida. She is currently the medical director of the PAL clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital and the director of the Dr. Harvey Levy Program for Phenylketonuria and Related Conditions. She has been involved in research studies with a focus on autism, genomic imbalances, inborn errors of metabolism and other rare disorders.
