Program Information

The Waterbury Health Literacy Grand Rounds Series aims to create a learning community to enhance providers’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes on health literacy to improve access, use, and outcomes of care among Waterbury’s BIPOC communities.

This activity meets the first Wednesday of every month.

This activity is appropriate for the following audiences:

  • Staff from public health associations and community-based organizations

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:

  • Discuss why health literacy is important in improving life outcomes for BIPOC communities
  • Develop a deeper understanding of health disparities for BIPOC communities
  • Review the historical conditions that contributed to health disparities
  • Develop a deeper understanding on how our practice helps/hurts disparities in our communities

Faculty

Dr. Tichianaa Armah, MD: As the Chief Psychiatry Officer at Community Health Center, Inc., Dr. Tichianaa Armah is driven to increase access to quality mental health care for our most vulnerable populations. Dr. Armah was an early organizer of the Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry's Social Justice and Health Equity curriculum, and is passionate about how microagressions impact the mental and physical health of marginalized communities.

Dr. Karoline Oliveira, Ed.D: Dr. Karoline Oliveira has over 15 years of experience driving innovation and furthering the vision and mission of organizations through diversity enhancement initiatives. Dr. Oliveira currently serves as the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at Community Health Center, Inc.
