Marwan Haddad, MD, MPH, AAHIVS
Marwan Haddad, MD, MPH is currently the Medical Director of the Center for Key Populations at Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC), the first center of its kind focused on engaging populations who experience barriers to comprehensive and respectful care secondary to stigma and discrimination. The Center brings together under one roof healthcare and advocacy for the LGB and Transgender/Nonbinary communities, people who use drugs, the homeless and those experiencing housing instability, the recently incarcerated, and sex workers. Dr. Haddad joined CHC, the largest federally qualified health center in New England, in July 2006.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College and his medical degree from McGill University. He completed his family medicine residency at University of Toronto and obtained his Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. He is board certified in Family Medicine. He is certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV specialist. Dr. Haddad is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at Quinnipiac University. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the HIV Medicine Association of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).
Since January 2012, Dr. Haddad has led the CHC Weitzman ECHO Key Populations and Weitzman ECHO Opioid Use Disorder, addressing LGB and Transgender Health including gender affirming care, HIV prevention including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), HIV treatment, viral hepatitis (Hepatitis B and C), sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and substance use health including medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) among other clinical considerations, which promotes and expands integration of care not only within CHC but nationwide. This model utilizes didactic and case-based learning via weekly video conferences offering ongoing support, consultation and guidance to medical providers and other care team members. Dr. Haddad also provides technical assistance support to other health centers in setting up and enhancing HIV prevention and treatment as well as integrated MOUD programs. He has taught and lectured at state and national conferences on HIV, Hepatitis C, MOUD, LGB and Transgender health, and integrated care. He has published research on the integration of MOUD in community health centers examining both substance use as well as primary care outcomes. He also has multiple publications on topics including STI screening, HIV-related stigma and ECHO, and HIV-related health policy. He has and continues to serve internationally as a consultant on HIV, HCV, opioid use disorder, integrated care, quality improvement, and virtual distance learning in Lesotho, Ukraine, Uganda, Jamaica, and Malaysia.
