Shantel Waddell is a native of Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of Oregon State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She has worked with Self Enhancement, Inc (SEI), a Portland non-profit since the early 1990s in various roles mentoring youth, and collaborating closely with school administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners to design school-linked extended day programs that align with the organization's mission of empowering youth to reach their full potential.   

Shantel is currently the Director of SEI’s Extended Day Programs, including the center’s after-school program, 17 SUN Community Schools, and the Post High & Leadership programs. Shantel gets excited about the collaborative nature of this work and the relationships she has built throughout her career.  She has a proven track record of implementing innovative and effective programs that cater to the diverse needs of students. Her leadership skills and her deep understanding of youth development enable her to create safe and engaging environments where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.  

Outside of her professional commitments, Shantel is a mom of three, married for 29 years, and a long-time member of her local church where she has served in children’s ministry. She enjoys volunteering in her local community, coaching track & field, and exploring fun, new, and creative ways of self-expression. She is deeply invested in creating a brighter future for all young people and is honored to be a part of the Self Enhancement, Inc. team.
