Program Information

This session will discuss the definition of trauma, types and impact. There will be a specific focus on childhood trauma which include screenings, indicators, and assessments. Participants will discuss reporting, diagnosis, and treatment.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:

1. Describe the impact of insomnia on mental and physical health, including its relationship with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and other medical conditions;

2. Differentiate chronic insomnia from other sleep disorders and identify patients who are appropriate for CBT-I versus those who require referral for further medical evaluation
3. Explain the cognitive behavioral model of insomnia and how maladaptive behaviors and thoughts contribute to the maintenance of sleep difficulties
4. Implement the core components of CBT-I: Sleep restriction therapy, stimulus control, sleep hygiene as an adjunctive intervention, cognitive restructuring for sleep-related beliefs, and relaxation and stress management strategies.
5. Identify common barriers to treatment adherence
6. Integrate CBT-I into primary care behavioral health services and collaborate effectively with medical providers to improve patient outcomes
