Oral Health Education for Non-Clinical Front Line Health Workers (FLHWs)

Activity Information

As part of the HRSA Oral Health Grant, the Weitzman Institute is looking to decrease oral health disparities in children age 0-4 through the integration of dental services with medical services. Part of this effort involves increasing non-clinical team members’ (i.e. Community Health Workers (CHWs), Social Workers, healthcare administrators, etc.) knowledge on oral health. This activity includes video lectures with embedded interactive activities to check knowledge along the way.

  • Other Frontline Health Workers

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to do the following:

  • Describe the relationship between oral health and overall health
  • Describe the prevalence and impact of oral disease
  • Recognize barriers to maintaining oral health
  • Identify ways to integrate oral health into front line health workers (FLHW) practice
  • Promote FLHW ownership and commitment to oral health 
  • Describe the prevalence, causes, and consequences of childhood tooth decay (Early Childhood Caries)
  • Understand prevention strategies and education tools to promote child oral health
  • Identify the role of FLHWs in promoting child oral health
