CASBHC 2026 Annual Conference: Where Health & Equity Unite

Southbury, CT US

Conference Information

On November 3, 2026, the Connecticut Association of School-Based Health Centers will hold its annual conference, Where Health & Equity Unite, at the Heritage Hotel and Conference Center in Southbury, CT. This premier learning opportunity builds upon our dedication to improving the health of youth by offering medical, behavioral health, and dental services in school-based health centers. The conference will train school-based health professionals, school professionals, state legislators, state health and education agency representatives, oral health providers, policymakers, and advocates.

The Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers (CASBHC) Annual Conference is a full-day professional development event designed to enhance the knowledge, clinical skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration of school-based health professionals. The conference provides a structured educational experience totaling 5.5 continuing education (CE) hours, combining keynote learning, breakout sessions, and applied practice content across medical, behavioral health, dental, and public health domains.

The day begins with welcome and opening remarks from CASBHC leadership, including the Executive Director and Board President, followed by a keynote presentation that sets the tone for the conference by addressing current trends and emerging priorities in school-based health care.

Following the keynote, participants engage in four sequential breakout session blocks, each offering multiple concurrent workshops. These sessions allow attendees to tailor their learning experience based on their professional roles and interests. Session topics are grounded in evidence-based practice and address a wide range of critical issues impacting school-based health centers and the populations they serve

Educational content includes:

  • Clinical supervision models in school-based mental health programs to strengthen staff support and service quality
  • Youth voice and lived experience to inform trauma-informed and patient-centered care
  • Oral health integration, including risk assessment and fluoride varnish application for medical providers
  • Best practices for screening, testing, and treatment of adolescent health concerns, including sexually transmitted infections
  • Multidisciplinary approaches to child advocacy and response to suspected abuse

Additional sessions focus on behavioral health and crisis response, including suicide prevention using validated tools such as the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), trauma screening, and partnerships between schools and crisis response systems. Providers also receive training in clinician wellness, including mindfulness strategies to prevent burnout and improve therapeutic effectiveness.

Afternoon sessions expand on applied and emerging practices, including:

  • Strategies to support emotional regulation and resilience in students and staff
  • Policy and systems-level supports such as Connecticut Paid Leave and its impact on student mental health
  • Measurement-based care approaches to improve mental health outcomes
  • Pediatric health topics including nutrition, eczema management, and infectious disease preparedness (e.g., measles response)
  • Integration of medical, dental, and behavioral health through practical tools and interdisciplinary collaboration

The conference also includes forward-looking content on the ethical use of artificial intelligence in school mental health, equipping providers with practical guidance to balance innovation with student safety and confidentiality.

Throughout the day, scheduled breaks and exhibitor sessions provide opportunities for participants to engage with community partners, explore resources, and strengthen professional networks. A mid-day awards ceremony recognizes leaders and champions in the field, reinforcing best practices and innovation in school-based health.

The conference concludes with a final session block and closing activities. All sessions are designed to be interactive, skills-based, and directly applicable to practice in school-based health settings.

Overall, the CASBHC Conference delivers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary learning experience that supports continuing education, promotes best practices, and strengthens the capacity of professionals to deliver high-quality, integrated care to children and adolescents in school-based settings.

Continuing education for the conference is made possible through Moses/Weitzman Health System, Inc. (MWHS) and its Weitzman Institute, the research, education, and policy arm of MWHS.
