From Barriers to Breakthroughs: Rural Health Strategies for Improving Cancer Screening

Program Information

This six-session Community of Practice will equip health center teams with practical tools, peer learning opportunities, expert guidance, and real-world case studies to improve cancer screening outcomes in rural communities. Participants will explore workflow redesign, PDSA cycles, Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs), community partnership models, mobile screening approaches, AI-supported patient engagement, and sustainability planning. Through facilitated discussions and action-oriented learning, participants will identify strategies to adapt and implement within their health centers to improve screening participation and follow-up care.

Learning Objectives

  • Assess workflow, operational, and access barriers that affect cancer screening participation and follow-up in rural communities.
  • Apply Focus PDSA cycles and rapid improvement methods to strengthen cancer screening workflows.
  • Design community-centered outreach and partnership strategies to improve screening participation among underserved populations.
  • Evaluate technology, automation, and AI-enabled approaches that enhance patient outreach, navigation, and screening completion.
