Weitzman ECHO Prenatal and Maternal Health 2025

Program Information

This ECHO program meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month from 1-2pm ET / 10-11am PT starting on January 24th.

Weitzman ECHO Prenatal and Maternal Healthdesigned for primary care cliniciansconnects medical providers, behavioral health providers, and care team members with a multidisciplinary team of experts and specialists in prenatal and maternal care. At each session, subject-matter experts provide guidance from a multidisciplinary team approach to address patients' complex health needs during the perinatal period. 

This ECHO is a no-cost 14-session series that uses twice-monthly videoconferencing sessions to explore a variety of topics designed to improve quality of care and clinical outcomes for underserved populations. Providers and care team members working in primary care settings (especially FQHCs and other satety net settings) are encouraged to join. CME, CNE, CPE, and CEU credits will be provided for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates/assistants, nurses, and pharmacists, among others, by Moses/Weitzman Health System Inc., an accredited provider through Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education.

Learning Objectives

Related to birthing patients, by the end of this series, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply culturally responsive and respectful care practices that consider the patient's identity and circumstances to improve engagement in care and reduce health disparities.
  2. Interpret prenatal and maternal health guidelines to provide tailored counseling and support shared decision-making.
  3. Differentiate mental health conditions in the perinatal period using symptoms and screening results to guide appropriate treatment.
  4. Counsel patients on the risks and benefits of health-related behaviors, such as sleep, nutrition, and substance use. 
  5. Develop treatment plans for medical and behavioral health conditions for perinatal patients in the primary care setting.
  6. Adjust medication management strategies to align with the patient's needs before, during, and after pregnancy.
  7. Connect pregnant and postpartum patients with resources and services to address social determinants of health.

FAQs

What is Project ECHO®? Project ECHO® was developed by Sanjeev Arora, MD, at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and is a collaborative model of medical education and care management that helps improve clinicians' knowledge and skills to improve patient care. ECHOs are designed to be longer-term continuing education programs to create a virtual community for providers and care team members to connect and learn from leading experts and receive guidance from peers and experts. This ECHO learning community provides mentorship and peer support which make this model unique and provides long-lasting impact beyond typical e-learning styles. Weitzman ECHO clinics are specifically designed to meet the needs of safety net primary care providers and their communities like providers practicing in federally qualified health centers (FQHCs). 

How is each ECHO session structured? Each ECHO session consists of a didactic presentation by the ECHO's expert faculty and a real patient case discussion presented by participating providers. During each ECHO session, participants learn skills and receive clinical pearls from the expert faculty didactic presentation and the case discussion and recommendations.

How much does it cost to participate? Enrollment is now open at no cost for the next curriculum year.

Who should participate? Primary care medical providers, behavioral health providers, nurses, or other members of the care team are welcome to join and register.

When do sessions occur? This ECHO will occur twice monthly for one hour. Our kickoff session will occur on January 24th, and sessions will occur every 2nd and 4th Friday from 1pm-2pm ET / 10am-11am PT.

What level of participation is expected? Prenatal and Maternal Health ECHO consists of 14 sessions. ECHO participants are expected to:

  • Attend at least 75% of sessions
  • Complete pre- and post-surveys
  • Submit at least one case for recommendations
  • Share webcams, when available
  • Engage during peer case discussion

How do I join the live sessions? Do I need any special equipment? Weitzman ECHO sessions are held virtually using the Weitzman Education Platform and Zoom Video Conferencing. How do I claim credit and download my CE/CME certificate? After the live session is completed, the session evaluation will be available right on the platform. Once you complete the session evaluation, you will be able to claim your credits and download your certificate.

Faculty

Brittany Booth, MD, MPH is a board-certified, UCLA-trained adult psychiatrist with a special focus on treating people during reproductive transitions such as pregnancy and postpartum. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her medical degree from UCLA. She also completed her psychiatry residency at UCLA, where she served as Chief Resident of the inpatient units and Chief Resident of the Women’s Life Center, a world-renowned center for reproductive psychiatry. She has a private practice in which she primarily treats women undergoing reproductive transitions. In addition to her private practice, she is the associate director of the Women’s Life Center and see patients in the UCLA Maternal Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, reading, baking, exploring new restaurants, watching movies, and seeing as many musicals as she can. 

Meghan Constantino, CNM, RN, MSN is a practicing nurse midwife at Community Health Center Inc. She received her Bachelor's in Human Biology at Stanford University and her Master's in Science of Nursing at Yale University School of Nursing. She has worked as Clinical Faculty at Yale School of Nursing, in private practice and most recently at Community Health Center Inc since 2017. She is a guest lecturer for programs at Fairfield University, Yale School of Nursing and Frank H Netter School of Medicine. She is a lecturer for Project Echo Complex Care Management, Advanced Primary Care ECHO and a faculty preceptor and lecturer for Community Health Center Inc’s Family Nurse Practitioner Residency Program. She has a special interest in both education and perinatal bereavement.

Daisy Goodman, DNP, MPH, CNM, CARN-AP, is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Geisel School of Medicine, a practicing nurse midwife and Certified Advanced Practice Addiction Nurse with 20 years of frontline engagement in the care of pregnancies complicated by drug and alcohol use. She completed her midwifery certification at Frontier Nursing University, Masters in Public Health at the Dartmouth Institute, and Doctorate in Nursing at the MGH Institute for Health Professions. Since joining Dartmouth-Health in 2013, Dr. Goodman has worked to build a comprehensive system of care for pregnant and parenting people with substance use disorders, including the development of related curriculum for Ob/Gyn residents. She currently supervises a resident run clinic providing recovery-centered obstetric care in the Ob/Gyn Department, and leads two HRSA funded initiatives, one focused on improving access to high quality reproductive health care for people with SUD, and the second addressing the issue of dwindling maternity care access in rural northern New Hampshire.

Robert P. Griggs, Jr., MD is a Board-Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist with over thirty years of clinical experience in private practice and academic medicine. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Cornell University and graduated from the SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine. While in private practice Dr. Griggs engaged in the delivery of low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, was credentialed and performed both major and minor abdominal and laparoscopic procedures, and held clinical and teaching privileges at four area hospitals. Dr. Griggs currently serves as Director of Obstetrics and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Nu Health Medical Center in East Meadow, New York, where he is actively engaged in the training and education of Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practice Providers, and medical students, and residents. Dr. Griggs has a special interest in obstetrical and gynecological Ultrasound. Dr. Griggs is a former Initial Clinical Experience (ICE) Preceptor, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University. He also serves as Honorary Police Surgeon for the Nassau Sheriffs Department, New York City Police Department, and the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association.

Becca Tavernier, PhD, LP, PMH-C is a licensed clinical health psychologist with 12+ years of experience developing and implementing treatment approaches to improve maternal and child health. She currently works as a Senior Research Scientist at the Weitzman Institute where her program of research incorporates mixed methods and centers social determinants of health and primary care innovation. She has subject matter expertise in multiple areas of public health significance, including smoking, obesity, mental health, translational science, and maternal and child health disparities. Dr. Tavernier also holds specialty certification in perinatal mental health and is the sole owner of a private practice where she works with clients experiencing perinatal mental health concerns and fertility challenges.
